ACCORDING TO DIRECTIVES 2011/65/EU AND 2002/95/EC
The EU Directive 2011/65/EU and its predecessor 2002/95/EC serve the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment and govern the use and marketing of hazardous substances in devices and electronic components. In German-speaking countries, these directives are colloquially abbreviated with RoHS. The meaning of this abbreviation originates from English-speaking languages and is “Restriction of Hazardous Substances”, in German: “Beschränkung (der Verwendung bestimmter) gefährlicher Stoffe”.
The outdated EC Directive 2002/95/EC (RoHS 1) was replaced by Directive 2011/65/EU (RoHS 2), which became effective on 3 January 2013.
